The Problem

Though 2016 spurred many progressive women to action with history-making results in 2018, when the champagne toasts ended, many of us felt confused about our direct impact.

In the age of easy digital fundraising there was a certain pressure to donate to all the candidates who caught our eye during 2016-2018. So with the click of a button, we gave $100 to one candidate and $50 to another. Then we canvassed for someone else. And phone banked for a different candidate. It felt chaotic and disjointed. When it was all over, we were tired, sure. But there was also something larger going on. We didn’t feel we were contributing efficiently or effectively to have the best return on our investment. We wondered how great our influence could be if we concentrated our efforts. So we sought to make a change for the 2020 election cycle.

Our Solution

We created Greater Than as a community for coherence in political giving so that we could have greater collective impact and, at the same time, fully understand what our contributions produce. Greater Than is a group of progressive women who coalesce each month in a “book club with teeth” where we develop a strategy to make meaningful, modest investments to ensure a progressive future.
